professional painting & decorating services covering the South West of England.

Established in the sixties by our Father, Roy Underhill, it is fair to say that decorating is in our blood. As soon as we were able to hold a brush, dad would put us to work in our summer holidays - so we have actually been decorating since we were 8 years old!

I remember the first job my Dad gave me back in 1983. We were working on Dean Close School, Cheltenham. I had to paint bitumen all around the base of this building. It was an absolutely horrible job to do as bitumen is more like tar than paint, but i did it and can always remember my Dad and my Uncle looking surprised when I returned to say “I’ve finished”.

Unbelievingly they inspected my work. I always remember my Dad turning to me and saying “I really wasn’t looking forward to that job Michael, you’ve really helped me” I was 8 years old and determined to please my Dad which gave me the drive to complete it. I was quite proud of myself as Dad was clearly proud of me. That first experience has stuck with me today and have the same work ethic as i did then. To strive to have all my customers make a comment that makes me feel good about myself and my work.

Our Dad was a great artist. I have inherited his artistic flare and can offer more than the average painter can. I have become proficient at designing and painting studio sets for commercial photography and theatre. I spent several years practising specialist paint techniques, freehand sign writing and murals. This creative part of painting and decorating is what really make me fizz.

Like my brother I started painting with my Dad from an early age. I left school in 1985 to work with Dad and My uncle Brian (Underhill Decorators) they taught me all aspect of painting and decorating to a very high standard. I have many happy memories of this era, an era when traditional methods were instilled in me.

I believe and trust in these methods and techniques today as I through extensive experience I know they provide longevity to my work and a richer, replete and aesthetically pleasing finish. I am more accomplished at new builds and site work and have become as efficient as one can be in this principle of decorating.

I am the senior of the two and have preferred to stick to the painting and decorating aspects of the trade. However, like my brother I too have inherited Dads artistic genes and am a very proficient mural artist and sign writer. I can say in all honesty and humility that I have never met my equal in this profession when it come’s speed and quality of work.

Qualifications:
L2 Decorative finishing and industrial painting
NOCS
CSCS skills award

our promise

We offer quality, flexibility, value for money, dependability, reliability, morality and a good work ethic, all of which make us second to none in our field. We pride ourselves in honouring our agreements and communicate well with our clients.

So often we hear from dissatisfied customers that have been let down by tradesmen. "They have not turned up without notification or reason" is a common one. "It took me all day to clean up after them" is another. This will never happen when you work with the Underhill Brothers.

We recognise the challengers with the home owner/tradesman relationship and are pro-active in alleviating them. We understand that it is your home, and have the greatest respect for your living space and the upheaval that work can have, so we always strive to limit any impact our presence may have.

We are also aware of the environmental impact that some of the products we use can have and thus take the utmost care and attention to the safe use and disposal of these products.

Regarding commercial work we understand the importance of punctuality, adhering to the rules and all health and safety regulations, meeting deadlines and working alongside other trades people. This promise provides our clients with a very efficient working practice keeping you and your clients happy.
